and ski tracks is about 1-1,5 m deep.

|
| March |
|
Sport
holidays now also in the northern part of our long country.
The sun is
starting to climb so high in the sky that the light is sufficient
for spring fishing.
More on the fishing page.
Best
time for mountain tours on skis or with the snowmobile. The
days are longer now and there is still lots of snow on the
mountains and in the forest. More information

| April |
| April
is the sun lovers month. In the snow-drifts on the mountains
and on the slopes you can see the "sun-holes" where
people have dug a hole in a snow-drift and enjoy their picnic in the sun, well protected from the wind. Some may even be grilling
the char they have caught in one of the mountain lakes. Still
others just rest in our beautiful nature.
The
Easter weeks are the peak season of the winter. The villages
are swarming with people, and activities are going on day
and night.
Ice-fishing
contest on the Akersjon. Easter carnival in the lift. Scooter
safaris. Song and pub evenings, dance and disco. Book
your cabin well in advance!
Beaver
hunting is starting now. The beavers
are sometimes spotted in the ice crevices of our rivers.
End of
the season
The
last weekend in April or the first weekend in May people like
to meet for different activities. May party and pub evening
in Bakvattnet, ski competition on the Ansatten, ice-fishing
on the Bakvattnet.
The
winter is slowly ending but layers of ice a meter or more
thick are still lying on our lakes. Ice-fishing is at its
best when the midday snow-melting water flows into the lakes
and carries along a lot of fish. More
information on fishing.

"King
Bore" is now beginning to become a bit dirty in the face.
On the southern slopes the sun has melted the snow in places,
but there is still plenty of snow left in the forest, and
even more on the mountains. But spring is coming with giant's
steps now. The ice is holding a firm grip on lakes and ponds,
but it is slowly breaking up. But sunny days still invite
the skier to wonderful ski tours
in the mountains.
The
lifts close for the season. Nature is opening up now and offers
some marvelous experiences on light spring evenings. Rent
a cabin and enjoy the beautiful light, good food and the arrival
of the spring.
On
early mornings capercaillie do their mating-dances in forest
clearings or in the small woods of the moors. You have to
be extra careful if you want to sneak up to the mating places
with your camera. But it's worth the effort.
By
the middle of the month, skiing and ice-fishing as well as
beaver-hunting have really come to an end for this year. The
Rough-legged Hawk can be spotted on spring evenings which
are now becoming lighter and lighter. After his "holidays"
in southern latitudes he has returned to his home district.
The moose tracks seem huge in the melting snow. The cry of
the cranes is carried from the wide moors into the valleys,
and suddenly the first day of spring is here.
Now
the changes are really happening fast. Spring comes at such
high speed that you hardly notice it before summer is already
arriving. It is during this short season that you can see
how plants grow. Birches grow "mouse ears" overnight.

The
lakes are waiting for the first real westerly wind so they can
finally get rid of their icy cover. Geese are soaring over the
ice on their search for a piece of ice-free water for landing.
The grassy slopes have already turned green, and swallows have
arrived. Now it is summer. The waterfalls in the Ansatten canyon
and in the other rivers are at its mightiest. They offer a dizzy
viewing experience.
When
the ice has thawed the giant trout can come closer to land.
Later in the summer it will look for cooler places. That is
when "trolling" and row-fishing come up in the deeper
parts of the Akersjon and the Bakvattnet. The fishing season
for rivers and streams starts as soon as the spring floods
are over. After the cold and hard winter months the fish have fed
on the nutrition which has been carried into the rivers and
streams with the melting water.
More
information on fishing
Forests
and soil are now starting to dry. Horses can run around all
day now, and the summer tours in forest and mountains are
a wonderful experience. In some spots there are great contrasts
between the summery forest areas and the mountains which are
still carrying their snow-caps.
More
information on horse trekking.
Midsummer
has arrived. It is now light day and night. At Brannagarden
in Akersjon the traditional midsummer festival is being celebrated.
When the midsummer post is decorated with the finest birch
twigs and summer flowers, the dance around the post can start.
Music and dance continues on into the evening, and when we
need a rest we treat us to a grill spit and a nice drink.
The fishing season is fully under
way now. Fly-fishers are finding their favorite spots where
dragonflies are soaring late at night. To sneak up to the
shy stream trout out there in the moor with the rod in your
hands takes great patience and soft steps.

Berries
and mushrooms are starting to ripen. Cloudberries are
ripe in the beginning of August, closely followed by blueberries,
cranberries and raspberries. For yellow chanterelles you usually
have to wait until the beginning of September.
White-grouse
hunting starts at the end of this month. Day licenses for
white grouse and small game are purchased from us.

The
blazing color of autumn is starting to decorate the mountain
slopes. The air is crispy clear. Every hike in the mountains
is now an experience of contrasts. It is still late summer
in the valleys, but the first snow may have already put a
white cap on the mountain peaks. The snow will not yet stay
more than a few days, not even in the highest heights.
Yellow
chanterelles and other mushrooms are starting to appear, and
until the first frost has made the blueberries all wrinkly,
there are still blueberries, cloudberries and cranberries
to be picked. Further
information's here.
Moose
hunting starts in the second week of this month. During their
fishing tours and berry-picking excursions the hunters in
the villages have already found out this year's favorite spots of the moose.
Rumors of the Great one who has been
spotted grazing on some slope, spread as fast as lightning
when the hunters meet in the villages. Now you see men and
women in green clothes all over the stores and companies.
The dogs in the villages are busy barking at all strange dogs
in the area, and from the shooting ranges the shots at cardboard
moose are heard. Then, one morning, it suddenly becomes totally
quiet in the villages. It is the first morning of the moose
hunt. The peace is soon disturbed, though, when one can hear
the barking of one of the dogs which are searching their way
through the hunting-grounds in the forests and the mountains.
When the first shot is fired, one of the old ones who were
forced to stop hunting for one reason or the other, surely
lifts his hat in a silent greeting to the “king of the forest.
Maybe it was the big one....
Further
information here
There
is no white-grouse hunting during the moose hunt, but as soon
as the first week of moose hunting is over, the white-grouse
hunt can start again. The hunters return from the mountains
and tell of a poetic image of a school of white grouse painting
a white stroke over the colorful carpet of heather and mountain
birch.

Winter
season is on its way. With every new snowfall the snow is
creeping further towards the forest, and at the end of the
month a thick layer of snow is covering forest and mountains.
It
is time to start the winter season with celebrations and activities
for the whole family on the last weekend of the month.

It
is time for the first ski camps in Akersjon. The ski tracks
are white and well prepared for the training-camps of the
season. Further
information here
The
lakes are already covered by a protective layer of ice. It's
the start of the ice-fishing which is now at its best before
the layer of snow on the ice is too thick. Cars are parking
everywhere on the banks of the lakes, and on the lakes themselves
you can see the fishermen like little colored dots in the
blazing white. Further information here
The
snow cover is growing steadily and has a tight grip on nature.
The first snowmobile drivers are appearing, oftentimes with
an ice-driller on the scooter. They drive up to one of the
many small mountain lakes for a nice day of fishing and maybe
for a small-talk with another fisherman who has found the
same pond. Further information's here.
The
restaurants in the area are preparing for their Christmas buffet. Book in time and sometimes it is hard to get a space
when you want to enjoy all those Christmas goodies. Further
information's here.

| December |

The
first ski-race of the year is
on and the traditional Akersjo Race usually takes place on
the first weekend in December.
At
the end of the month it is time for the first ice-fishing
on the Akersjon. Due to its depth this lake freezes later
than the Bakvattnet or one of the smaller lakes.
On
Christmas weekend the Akersjon ski lops
opens for the first slalom skiers of the season. There is
also a half pipe for snow-board riders.
New Year's Eve in Akersjon comes
with lots of activities for the whole family. All companies
arrange something special, and glittering snow covers the
countryside. The days are short, but you can see the mountain
silhouettes against the western horizon in moonlit nights.
A moonshine-tour on a sled is a beautiful experience, ending
with hot chocolate and gingerbread in front of an open fire
which thaws body and soul.
