History
The
villages of Akersjon, Bakvattnet and Vallrun are small, cosy mountain villages formerly living on mountain agriculture which
have recently developed into tourist places. After agriculture
had been rationalized away the village population had to look
for new sources of income. The development of tourism began
already in the Thirties when some pioneers sold their cows and
built lifts and cabin villages. School children and other guests
came to ski, and since then hotel, ski slopes, as well as cabin
villages were built and the tourist association was founded.
Here, tourist services are being operated by the locals. They
know most about the area and are very service-minded.
Dairy
huts
Its a must to
visit the dairy hut of Sorbodarna. It is still active, and
you are welcome to try the fresh-baked waffles or pet the
baby goats on the meadow. At a cycling-distance from Akersjon
and Bakvattnet.
Cutting and
harvest hay
Relaxed
hay harvest days are arranged in Vallrun village. Here you
can try to cut the hay the traditional way with a scythe.
